Please note that the Our Life Our Choice conference, which had been due to take place in October, will now take place on Thursday 3 April 2025.
At our April 2023 Open Meeting, we heard from David Wilks of Our Life Our Choice.
Our Life Our Choice is campaigning for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to amend its current guidelines so that all people with learning disabilities and/or autism have the same fundamental human right to choose where they live and receive care (according to their individually assessed needs) as does everyone else. This should include well regulated and well managed group and village communities. At the moment the CQC refuses to register, or favourably rate, care and accommodation settings like village communities. A detailed campaign summary has recently been published.
The Camphill Families and Friends trustees feel strongly that Our Life Our Choice’s campaign is worth supporting and we have recently agreed to make a one-off donation to support their work. We encourage our members to sign up to support the campaign, and to opt in to receive email updates.
