Supporting siblings
We know that a sibling’s experience can be different to that of a parent.
Siblings workshops
We know that a sibling’s experience of having a brother or sister with a learning disability can be different to that of a parent, so occasionally we run siblings workshops.
Facilitated by the charity Sibs, the workshops are for adult brothers and sisters of people who live in a Camphill community in the UK. They offer the chance for siblings to meet other siblings, share experiences, and discuss issues and worries. The workshops are designed to be supportive and non-judgemental and the feedback we’ve had from brothers and sisters who have attended is overwhelmingly positive. If you’d be interested in attending a siblings workshop in the future, please let us know.
Siblings Facebook group
We also have a Facebook group which is for siblings (and siblings-in-law and cousins) only. The group is a space where we, as siblings of people with learning disabilities, can share experiences and ideas, ask for advice and support, and get to know others in the same position. You don’t need to be a member of Camphill Families and Friends but we will ask you a couple of questions to ensure that the space remains a parent-free one. Just log in to Facebook, go to www.facebook.com/groups/CFFSibs and send us a join request. It is a closed group, so only people who are group members can read posts.
Handover Guide
It’s not always easy having a family member with a learning disability, especially if you want to support them as much as possible. We created a special guide which is a summary of the most important things to know, when supporting someone who lives in a UK Camphill community. It’s called the ‘Handover Guide’ because it’s especially useful when parents want to start handing over responsibility for supporting their son or daughter to someone else (often a sibling or close friend). Find out more and download the Handover Guide for free.

We, as siblings of people with learning disabilities, can share experiences and ideas, ask for advice and support, and get to know others in the same position.
“It is really helpful to be able to share experiences with other siblings in the same boat.”
