Our most recent Open Meeting focused on Lifetime Advocacy Support Schemes, under which independent advocates are employed to help provide a voice for people with learning disabilities, both now and in the future when family members may no longer be around to provide support.
Following the meeting, we have added information on the two schemes we discussed (Reserve Power and klasp) to our website. This information may be of use to any members or supporters who are interested in setting up their own scheme. You can read it here.
Maurice Collins, who spoke at our Open Meeting and who is one of the founders of Reserve Power and klasp, has kindly offered to help any Camphill Families and Friends members who may want to explore setting up their own scheme. He has also set up a trust which offers a grant of £1,500 to any group of parents setting up a such a scheme, to assist in getting started. Please contact us if you would like his contact details.
We are currently considering the best way to facilitate putting members who have relatives in the same community in touch with each other via community email groups (if they would like to do this). More information will be circulated once a plan is in place.
